Morocco's economy and trade has a strong relationship with European markets. Morocco agreed with the EU to join their free trade zone in 2012.

In 2006 Morocco’s economy grew by almost 7%. The IMF predicts a growth of 5-6% annually by 2011. This is regarded as a conservative estimate by the German agency for foreign trade affairs.

Consumer spending in 2006 rose in nominal terms by 12% and in real terms by 9%. This increase in consumer prosperity is closely linked to a declining unemployment rate (2007 probably less than 10%) and a significantly improved income situation.

The German agency of foreign trade affairs quoted that the liberalisation and opening of the Moroccan economy is progressing: "The consolidation of public finances has been launched, the efficiency of the financial sector increases." Social tensions are successfully dismantled.
